This story is about a man named Mr. Popper who receives a package in the mail with lots of air holes in it from a friend named Admiral Drake. It turns out that inside the box is a penguin. Mr. Popper does not know how to go about raising a penguin. He realizes that his penguin, Captain Cook, is extremely lonely so Admiral Drake sends him yet another penguin named Greta. Greta makes Captain Cook very happy, and they end up having children. So, Mr. Popper ends up with twelve penguins in his household. Mr. Popper decides that with all of these penguins, he should create a penguin show for people to come and see. This ends up being a success, but when the spring comes Admiral Drake ends up taking the penguins to the North Pole so they can thrive in their proper environment. Mr. Popper really had a lot of fun with the penguins, and decides to go to the North Pole for a year adventure with the penguins too.
